ABOUT THE PLAY:

In a not-too-distant future, humanity’s best and brightest have gone underground after radiation has devastated the world above. Generations later, coping with life inside an artificial habitat, they’re relying on implanted chips to simulate everything from experiences in nature to the flavor of their daily meals. After several rejections from the government due to Anna’s struggle with depression, Anna and Oliver have one last chance to apply for a child of their own. Oliver brings home a robot companion named Arthur for Anna to train as an assistant to the blind, but things are not as they appear. Will Anna’s connection to this machine make her the mother she has always dreamed she’d become?  “[Kazan has] created a slyly detailed alternate universe that is both an extrapolation of the world we know today and its own consistent entity.” —The New York Times.

REHEARSALS:

A read-through will be scheduled for early February. Rehearsals will begin at the end of the month and will increase throughout March. There will generally be 2-3 weeknight rehearsals (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 7:00-9:00) per week and 1 weekend rehearsal per week Sundays (11:00-1:00). Once we are closer to our performance dates, rehearsals will likely become more frequent. Not every actor will be called to every rehearsal.

The Thanksgiving Play

Langhorne Players is seeking a director with sharp wit and thoughtful comedic timing. We are looking for someone who understands the absurdist nature of this play and can tap into the social commentary on the ridiculousness of identity politics. The right candidate will have a clear sense of the depth within the play and will not simply try to shock or offend the audience, but will lovingly hold a mirror to some of the worst impulses within the most liberal elements of our society. Picture the snarky wit and cynicism of SNL meeting the boldness of Archie Bunker, all combined in one impossible Thanksgiving pageant.

4,000 Miles

Langhorne Players is seeking a director to helm this charming and dramatic story set in a rent-controlled NYC apartment. The right candidate will have a vision that captures the very heart and soul of this touching piece about family, coping with loss, and living up to the difficult expectations of our society. This piece is a finely woven tapestry of unconditional love and irritability that requires an adept touch in navigating the unique challenges found within the vast cultural divide between the generations.
