ABOUT THE PLAY: Ninety-one-year-old political activist Vera Joseph’s solitary existence is entirely shaken when her grandson, Leo, appears at the door of her West Village apartment in the middle of the night. Leo is fresh from a cross-country bike ride and assures Vera that he won’t stay long. Leo, however, is in crisis, confused by an on-again, off-again romance, furious with his mother’s incessant meddling, and grieving deeply for his best friend and biking partner, Micah, who is recently deceased. While Leo seeks solace in his grandmother, Vera finds companionship in another person for the first time since the loss of her husband, Joe. A touching and beautiful story of the human need for connection.

ROLES: We are casting for 4 actors: 3 female-presenting and 1 male presenting
VERA - Female, 80’s-90’s. Grandmother to Leo. Communist and former 60’s activist. An “old fashioned Greenwich Village lefty.” Feisty and strongly opinionated. Not afraid to say what’s on her mind, but her memory is shaky, and words often escape her.
LEO - Male, 20’s. Vera’s “neo-hippie”grandson. Exhausted by his bicycle trek across the country and by recent personal events, Leo is searching for comfort, understanding, and purpose.
BEC - Female, 20’s. Leo’s girlfriend. Cares deeply for Leo but wants to move on from his immaturity and inability to accept responsibility. Also, physically fit and active.
AMANDA- Female, late teens, early 20’s. A rich, boisterous fashion-design student that Leo brings back to Vera’s apartment for a one-night stand. She is presented as Chinese American in the script.

DIRECTORS
Our slate is usually in place by October. Prospective directors are encouraged to read all of the plays in the upcoming season. If you are passionate about a play and would like to direct it, email us. Please indicate which play you are interested in and attach your resume. Interviews will be scheduled for mid-December.
During this interview, the director should share their vision and ideas about the play as well as its production. We look for directors to have a passion for the play and the characters and the story they tell. In addition, directors must be capable of overseeing all aspects of the show including casting, props, costumes, set decoration, sound, lighting, and arranging for a stage manager.
